Nursery, Mini Mountain View & Faith Practices
Mountain View United Church provides for Christian learning experiences for children following the “Small Talk” portion of worship service. The nursery and Mini Mountain View are provided year-round. Faith Practices is a new program that is available throughout the school year, but not during the summer months.
Olivia Popham provides nursery care for our youngest members. She supervises play, comforts boo, boos and provides lessons in cleaning up for nursery-aged children. Peggy Newman provides lesson plans and supervises learning experiences for children three through 2nd grade. Lesson plans center on Christian values and Bible stories. The lessons are usually lectionary based with an attempt to expand on what is taught in Children’s message upstairs. The lessons include crafts, videos and a small snack. Children in grades 3 — 6 (and sometimes others) join Kerrie Shahan for an exploration of Faith Practices. This new program began in September and looks at different “practices” for six
weeks. The class looked at various ways to practice “Sabbath in September and October. In November the class looked at “Hospitality” until it was time to celebrate Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. The lessons involve games, crafts, skits, songs, prayer and a lot of moving around.
